About the Role

As a Senior Back End Developer, this role will provide technical expertise for one or more applications or platforms. The role will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing technology changes, as well as mentoring and guiding Developers and other more junior team members.

Duties

It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Senior Back End Developer

 you will:

  • Design, develop, test and implement software while ensuring adherence to code quality standards and metrics.
  • Implement new features while continuously improving quality of technical products and applications.
  • Adhere to testing best practices and principals such as TDD.
  • Ensure applications are secure, reliable and performant.
  • Document technical details and decisions in codebases and supporting tools
  • Participate in communities of practice by following standards, reviewing code, and sharing knowledge.
  • Troubleshoot, debug and resolve issues in existing applications

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary education, or equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through extensive practical experience
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills required; enthusiastic about engaging in discussions with clients and project team members about technical best practice.
  • Experience working with Agile software development methodologies 
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git). 
  • Deep knowledge of testing strategies (unit, integration, acceptance)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in similar role.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expert in at least one coding language such as (Java, JavaScript, Typescript, Rust, C-Sharp)
  • Knowledge and experience using databases such as (MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Redis)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a microservices based architecture
  • Experience developing APIs within microservices
  • Knowledge of caching strategies, messages queues, asynchronous processing
  • Knowledge of distributed task queues, scalable background, processing
  • Knowledge of self healing fault tolerant systems
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, observability tools
  • Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS)
