About the Role
In this role you will work closely with participants and their families, health professionals and other key stakeholders to support and advise the person to exercise choice and control over the way in which their home modifications are designed and delivered.
You will support participants to maximise independence and safety in their home and aim to identify suitable options that will enable the participant to access their local community. This will include handling complex and sensitive conversations, understand how disability impacts on daily living and identify and advise on what home modifications are required.

Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Senior Home Modifications Advisor you will:
- Work with local coordination teams across Care, provide support and guidance on the assessment and review of the needs of participants balancing what is reasonable and necessary with a person-centred approach to facilitate a participants’ capacity to achieve their desired accommodation goal.
- Approve all major modification requests within delegated authority.
- Provide support and guidance to approved external service providers including Building Modification Occupational Therapists (BMOTs) and Building Modification Project Managers (BMPMs).
- Assist the Home Modifications Manager to monitor BMOT and BMPM performance through a provider management framework by developing and reviewing performance expectations to ensure quality services to participants.
- Assist with the development and implementation of procedures, specialist knowledge guidelines, and policies and service standards the home modification program to ensure the appropriate provision of services to participants in a cost-effective manner.
- Research and prepare advice on best practice in home modification delivery to participants to eliminate gaps in service delivery.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as an Occupational Therapist and experience in coordinating multiple stakeholders dealing with people and families experiencing serious illness or injuries or disability.
- A current driver’s licence and prepared to travel extensively in NSW and occasionally interstate to attend sites and other meetings.
- Demonstrated experience in prescribing and scoping home modifications for people with severe injuries and/or disabilities (e.g. SCI, ABI, amputations), including justification of major modifications within funding guidelines.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of home modifications and experience in assessment and review of home modification needs for people with severe injuries and complex and significant needs.
- Highly developed critical reasoning skills to ensure a high degree of integrity in the decision-making processes
- Excellent communication skills – ability to build rapport and communicate complex information and create and nurture effective working relationships with all stakeholders
- Flexibility and insightfulness and an ability to tailor established service delivery to meet the circumstances of each participant
- Ability to set clear expectations and engage in difficult conversations in a simple and empathetic manner
- Capability to work in an ambiguous environment
- A range of experience in coordinating multiple stakeholders supporting people and their families experiencing serious injuries and or significant and complex disabilities
- Experience working with people with brain and/or spinal cord injuries
- Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing.
