About the Role

The Manager Portfolio assurance and PMO drives the application and quality outcomes of icare’s Project Management Framework and organisational requirements for initiatives delivering change in the business.

Working closely with the business leaders driving change and the teams delivering those changes, the role is focused on assurance activities including ensuring large programs of work are supported with PMO support to meet these obligations. It provides comfort that the information being presented in decision making forums is accurate and consistent, and that underlying standards and processes have been followed to achieve the outcomes.

Duties

It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Manager, Portfolio Assurance and PMO you will:

  • Conducting regular assessments of project plans, artefacts, deliverables, risks, and data quality to identify areas for improvement and potential deviations from processes, governance, or other business requirements. 
  • Ensure the initiative teams follow established methodologies, governance processes, and compliance regulations and create action plans to close the gaps.
  • Proactively identify potential risks in the portfolio, advising on risk mitigation strategies or actions.
  • Provide support to large scale projects to meet their obligations as outlined in our project management frameworks and organisational requirements
  • Work across the various delivery teams, EPMO, and other support teams to identify trends which present opportunities, issues, or risks for ongoing delivery success and partner to develop interventions to close the gaps.
  • Working with portfolio governance, understand the external assurance requirements across the portfolio and provide oversight on the quality of the artefacts and responses to these assurers.
  • Deep dive into initiatives at key points in time to ensure decisions can be made with clarity and transparency and that they are set up for success, including but not limited to Business cases, stage gates, change requests, and closure.
  • Establish PMO and PMO resources inside of large programs of work or portfolios, identifying the needs, optimal resourcing mix, ways of working, and accountabilities.
  • Monitor the performance of program PMOs to ensure they are aligning to organisational frameworks and delivering value to the program or portfolio they support.
  • Develop lessons learned and recommendations for improvement in the delivery frameworks, standards, and processes to improve their efficacy and impact on project and portfolio performance.

People Leadership

  • Inspire, motivate, and connect our people to our purpose and strategic priorities.
  • Lift team performance through clear accountabilities, setting quality performance & development goals, and coach to drive quality outcomes.
  • Lead people through change and work with them to embed new ways of working.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior stakeholders.
  • High level of business acumen and understanding of financial and decision-making controls.
  • Can operate at both macro and micro levels simultaneously.
  • Well-developed project management skills or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through practical experience, with an advanced understanding of project management techniques and methodologies.
  • Highly developed collaborative and partnering approach to stakeholder management.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in portfolio / project management
  • Experience in project tools such as PPM, MS Project, JIRA, Power BI.
  • Advanced Office 365 experience and skills.
  • Experience in a PMO, EPMO or similar team.
  • Project Management qualification (P30, Prince2, Prince2 Agile, Agile, PMBOK, PMI or Six Sigma) – desirable.
