Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Manager SME Audit (Workers Compensation) you will:
• Leverage subject matter expertise to deliver a high quality and timely audit portfolio
• Leverage technical and subject matter expertise to contribute to the development of, and leadership for, the execution of the scheme Internal Audit strategy, aligned with icare’s objectives and risk management framework and in consultation with key stakeholders.
• Leverage your functional technical and subject matter expertise to provide input into the development of the scheme components of icare’s a risk based annual audit plan.
• Execute to the plan for a prioritised portfolio of audits and ensure that they are delivered within set timeframes and to set quality standards.
• Support the delivery of audit reports that provide clarity on issues, root causes and associated risks with clearly articulated insights on the effectiveness of business processes, risk and control frameworks and / or strategy.
• Provide technical and advisory input into the development of management actions, which address the root cause of audit findings in a timely manner and within agreed timeframes.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with business leaders, implement regular consultation and engagement mechanisms
• Build on existing subject matter expertise with deep understanding of business drivers, operations and goals.
• Provide technical and SME input into the provision of independent advice in relation to the design of effective risk management and control environments in areas such as underwriting, claims handling, policy administration, reserving, reinsurance and long term injury management and care.
• Engage and foster relationships with key stakeholders, including leadership to achieve effective outcomes, e.g. ensure deliverables are clearly articulated and potential issues are promptly identified and effectively addressed.
• Provide technical, SME, and business knowledge input into negotiation on complex and sensitive enterprise-wide or strategic matters.
• Remain abreast of emerging industry and NSW Government policy and regulatory developments and emerging risks in the general insurance and care sectors.
• Challenge the status quo to continuously improve processes both within the Internal Audit Unit and the areas being audited.
Skills & Experience
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, including accounting, commerce, public sector administration.
• Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) or an Australian Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA).
• Well-developed understanding of audit procedures and standards.
• At least 5years experience in internal audit, and at least 3 years relevant experience in the financial services industry within the general insurance industry.
• Knowledge of leading practice in general insurance long tail, long term care schemes and relevant regulatory frameworks
• Extensive experience in planning and implementing audits and delivering audit plans either within the workers compensation, insurance or financial services sectors or within a government setting.
• Demonstrated expertise in authoring conscious audit reports, which clearly articulate audit findings, their potential impact on business processes and associated risk and control environments.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage business partnering skills to influence senior stakeholder involvement in the development of timely management responses.
• Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the legal and regulatory framework for Workers Compensation insurance, acquired through prior experience directly in a relevant role.
• Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the management and assessment of workers compensation claims, acquired through prior experience in a claims service provider.
• Member of a recognised professional body.
• Exposure and experience with global best practice of Internal Audit.
