About the Role
The Head of Data Platform and Insights is responsible for developing and executing the Data Platform strategy that supports icare’s strategy and enables data-driven decision making across the organisation. Specifically, this includes development, management and optimisation of icare’s data platform and reporting capabilities. This role will lead and influence senior leadership in building a modern data platform and insight delivery capability and transform the way icare uses data to drive service delivery for employers, brokers and care for injured. With deep understanding of modern data technology, architecture, analytics and significant experience in building large scale data platform, the role will form partnership with senior leadership team across icare to drive data-led transformation.

Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same: as Head of Data Platform & Insights you will:
- Thought-Lead the development of the Data Platform strategy, bringing in modern data platform thinking to drive data transformation.
- Collaborate and influence icare’s senior leadership team through to board in understanding and driving data-led transformation.
- Develop embedment plan for executing the data strategy as part of continuous and iterative development of the Data Platform.
- Drive actionable insight led transformation of business operations enabling faster and efficient decision making across the organisation.
- Work with senior leaders to develop business KPIs that enables icare to measure the right business performance effectively and efficiently and support strategic decision making.
- Work with business leaders to develop business value drivers that supports measuring and transformation of service delivery.
- Drive innovative thinking and capability development and own the delivery of data platform and insight delivery roadmap.
- Develop service catalogue for insights-as-a-service and implement processes and measurement to operationalise it.
- Partner with strategy and CX team to identify and measure business issues and develop compelling, synthesised insights to drive business and service delivery transformation.
- Oversee and lead the integration of structured and unstructured data sources to support real-time, near-real time operational and strategic analytics.
- Oversee the architecture and design of data pipelines, analytical feature stores, supporting training pipelines ensuring they are optimised to support real-time integration into operational system to provide guided and embedded analytics.
- Develop strategy and operational plans for ensuring data platform remains performant and embed continuous improvement culture and processes to improve strategic value of the data platform.
- Collaborate with security and architecture and drive strategic thinking ensuring delivery programs aligns to the design and implementation of a robust data platform.
- Develop Data Platform eco-system by working closely with architecture to drive selection of future technology, architectural blueprint and scalable design.
- Thought lead the design and development of flexible, scalable data platform ensuring data pipelines and development of insights are built to modern standards and best practices incorporating the best features from multiple modern architecture and data platform design patterns.
- Oversee the setup and running of data operations taking ownership of Data Ops SLAs and meeting business needs.
- Manage the budget for change and running of the data platform and performance monitoring and insights delivery initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Oversee the measurement of CX initiatives and build a culture of CX insights led service improvement through delivery of voice of customer insights.
- Actively build team capability through driving proactive training, hiring and team skill management.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the data platform and insights teams.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring the team is equipped with cutting-edge tools and practices by forecasting future needs for technology, infrastructure, and personnel to scale data capabilities.
- Foster collaboration between the data platform, data science and business optimisation team to ensure cohesive delivery of icare’s data, analytics and AI transformation strategy
Your story so far:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, data platform or related roles.
- Deep knowledge of various data technologies and design patterns
- Experienced in setting up and running large scale cloud-based data platform (preferably AWS)
- Good understanding of IT, Data architecture and building large scale cloud-based data platforms and data applications
- Experienced in leading large teams and driving transformation
- Have the capability to lead, manage and motivate teams and build a high-performance culture
- Proven experience in building and managing data infrastructure, ETL pipelines, and cloud data platforms.
- Strong track record of deriving insights from data and translating them into business outcomes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence strategic decision within the organisation
- High-level business acumen with experience in leading data led transformation
- Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Proven project management experience needed to drive transformation and manage multi-project, multi-team delivery model
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Deep knowledge of data engineering technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka, SQL, Python, etc.) and cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Good understanding of Data platform technologies and building data products
- Proficient in data visualization and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
- Excellent leadership, project management, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
