Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Head of SME Audit (General Insurance & Care) you will:
• Leverage technical and subject matter expertise to develop and lead the execution of the scheme Internal Audit strategy, aligned with icare’s objectives and risk management framework and in consultation with key stakeholders.
• Leverage your functional technical and subject matter expertise to contribute to icare’s risk based annual audit plan.
• Lead and manage the delivery of a prioritised portfolio of audits and ensure that they are delivered within set timeframes and to set quality standards.
• Provide independent advice in relation to the design of effective risk management and control environments in areas such as underwriting, claims handling, policy administration, reserving and reinsurance and long-term care outcomes across Schemes within the portfolio
• Engage and foster relationships with key stakeholders, including leadership to achieve effective outcomes, e.g. ensure deliverables are clearly articulated and potential issues are promptly identified and effectively addressed.
• Mentor, coach, develop and recognise a high performing team of audit professionals fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and professional excellence.
• Remain abreast of emerging leading practices across relevant sectors and NSW Government policy and regulatory developments and emerging risks that impact the portfolio.
Skills & Experience
• Relevant degree qualifications, e.g. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, including accounting, commerce, public sector administration.
• Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) or an Australian Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA).
• Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is desirable.
• Well-developed understanding of audit procedures and standards.
• At least 8 years’ experience in internal audit, and at least 5 years relevant experience across relevant sectors
• Knowledge of leading practice in general insurance long tail, long term care schemes and relevant regulatory frameworks
• Understanding of NSW Governance Regulation and Practices in so far as they relate to icare’s statutory requirements, General Insurance & Care, Risk Management and Internal Auditing.
• Extensive experience in planning and implementing audits and delivering audit plans either within the insurance or financial services industry or within a government setting.
• Demonstrated excellence in leadership, gained through leading General Insurance Internal Audit teams.
• Member of a recognised professional body.
• Experience in continuous improvement approaches, creating solutions and problem solving.
• A broad range of experience in the management of complex and/or sensitive matters.
• Demonstrated experience in the adoption of technology or other operational level changes
